SELUX and IDA: Helping protect the night
Observe a night sky in an open field or suburban area with no exterior lighting, and then compare a night sky
in a parking lot or urban area with a non-cutoff fixture. The uplight from non-cutoff fixtures can be plainly seen, obstructing our
view of the night sky and creating distracting glare at critical viewing angles. SELUX design engineered an array of IDA-certified
"Dark Sky Friendly" Full-Cutoff luminaires to eliminate these problems.
Oakwood Commons, an office center in Poughkeepsie, NY, is a great example of Full-Cutoff vs. Non-Cutoff optics.
In the top right corner, you can see fixtures that do not feature Full-Cutoff optics where the glare and uplight spill are clearly
seen. But when you see the SELUX IDA-Certified Full-Cutoff fixtures, you see no uplight- with the light clearly and uniformly
projected below.
